PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — Persistence of the negative sentiment continued at the Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity markets trading session on Wednesday. Therefore, the equity market capitalization ended at MUR 212.623 billion after dropping MUR 465 million (about US$13.2 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 213.088 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) tumbled by 0.22 percent or 4.18 points to close at 1,909.31 and SEM10 index crashed by 0.25 percent or 0.93 points to end at 364.78 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 48,508,706 (a rise relative to volume of 4,186,218 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 146.912 million (a rise relative to MUR 69.466 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings recorded 45,922,152 (about 94.67 percent of total volume) at MUR 38.575 million and CIEL Limited registered 1,429,402 traded stocks amounted to MUR 9.691 million. MCB Group traded 359,907 at MUR 75.213 million and New Mauritius Hotels recorded a total volume of 194,483 shares at MUR 3.481 million. ALTEO Limited also recorded 173,258 shares at MUR 5.971 million.
Looking at the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 29 traded securities there were 2 price leaders and 13 price laggards, hence the market sentiment ended negative. United Docks Limited surged by 2.36 percent to end at MUR 76.00 and New Mauritius Hotels grew by 1.42 percent to settle at MUR 17.90.
On the laggards’ tablet, Ireland Blyth closed at MUR 111.25 after losing 3.05 percent and Mauritius Oil & Refinery Limited slumped by 1.82 percent to settle at MUR 27.00. Also, INNODIS Limited went down by 1.61 percent to settle at MUR 45.75, CAUDAN Limited fell by 1.54 to trade at MUR 1.26 and LOTTOTECH Limited plunged by 1.08 percent to end at MUR 3.68.
The DEMEX index closed at 205.65 points after losing 0.21 points or 0.10 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 50.566 billion after losing MUR 52 million (relative to MUR 50.618 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 10.408 million exchanged in 536,965 traded securities. SODIA Limited surged by 3.51 percent to trade at MUR 0.59, MEDINE Limited added 0.40 percent to end MUR 62.50 and Phoenix Investment Limited jumped by 0.10 to conclude at MUR 255.00. Whereas, SIT Land Hedge Option sagged by 2.65 percent to settle at MUR 11,000.00, EUDCOS closed at MUR 15.50 by losing 1.90 percent and ENL Investment Limited fell by 0.82 to settle at MUR 48.60.
